Palm Springs Mayor Ron deHarte Addresses Immigration Enforcement Concerns
Palm Springs Mayor Ron deHarte addressed local concerns regarding the recent publicity surrounding federal immigration enforcement, particularly under the incoming Trump administration. In a message to the community, Mayor Ron reaffirmed Palm Springs' commitment to being a safe and welcoming city for all residents, regardless of their immigration status.
The mayor emphasized that the Palm Springs Police Department's primary mission is public safety and maintaining trust with all community members. He explained that when residents fear engaging with local authorities, it undermines the ability to solve crimes, protect victims, and maintain neighborhood safety.
Mayor Ron assured that Palm Springs would continue to comply with California’s SB 54 law, which limits local law enforcement's involvement in federal immigration enforcement. By exercising its local authority, Palm Springs will focus its resources on what best serves the community's needs, without fear of discrimination.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer. After retiring from the stage, he returned to performing at 82, becoming the host of Carnival Cabaret at Oscars in downtown Palm Springs. A longtime friend of our station, Haake was a familiar and beloved figure in the Palm Springs entertainment community — and his contributions were recognized with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.
