GroundWorks Highlights Essential New Year's Home Maintenance Checklist
As we dive into the new year, GroundWorks is urging homeowners to make their homes part of their New Year’s resolutions. Kondwani Phiri, a representative from GroundWorks, appeared on Desert Living to share a comprehensive home maintenance checklist that could save homeowners from costly repairs and ensure their homes remain in tip-top shape.
GroundWorks specializes in foundation repair, basement waterproofing, crawl space solutions, and concrete repair, prioritizing personalized service and high-quality repairs. Phiri highlighted several areas homeowners should inspect, starting with gutters and downspouts. "Cracked or clogged gutters prevent rainwater from being properly diverted, leading to water pooling around the foundation, which can severely damage the structure," Phiri explained.
Homeowners should also check for missing roof shingles or sagging sections that could indicate water damage. Cracks in both the interior and exterior of a home, such as in brick walls or drywall, often signal foundation issues. Phiri also pointed out the importance of examining concrete surfaces like driveways and garage floors for cracks. These are more than an eyesore—they present tripping hazards and potential liability concerns.
One of the biggest red flags is a wet basement or crawl space. “These areas not only threaten the home’s foundation but also invite pests and pose health risks,” Phiri warned.
When asked why this time of year is ideal for home inspections, Phiri emphasized that foundation problems worsen over time, becoming more expensive to fix. GroundWorks offers free inspections, making it easy for homeowners to get ahead of issues and gain peace of mind.
DIY fixes may be tempting, but Phiri advises against them for foundation and waterproofing problems. “DIY solutions are often temporary and don’t address the root cause. Certified contractors with the right tools and expertise are the best option,” Phiri added.
