Desert Hot Springs Recreation Center Certified as Autism-Friendly Destination
The Desert Hot Springs Recreation Center has earned certification as an official autism center, aligning with the growing movement initiated by Visit Greater Palm Springs to create more inclusive destinations for individuals with autism. This new certification gives visitors with autism a variety of trained and certified options when visiting the area, making it a more welcoming environment for families and individuals with special needs.
The certification is part of a broader effort by the city to ensure all members of the community can access meaningful experiences. Desert Hot Springs Mayor expressed the city's commitment to providing a space where every resident, regardless of ability, can engage in activities that are both enriching and enjoyable.
"This certification is part of our ongoing efforts to provide a welcoming, supportive environment for all. It shows our dedication to ensuring everyone in the community feels included and valued," said the mayor.
With this designation, the Desert Hot Springs Recreation Center becomes a key player in a regional push to enhance accessibility and provide special needs resources throughout the Coachella Valley. Visitors with autism can now take advantage of more inclusive programs, as the area continues to offer greater opportunities for diverse and enriching experiences.

Palm Springs firefighters responded Thursday to a report of a person struck by lightning in the Chino Canyon area. The person was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Firefighters also responded to a palm tree fire in Chino Canyon that officials say was caused by an apparent lightning strike. Estevan Figueroa of King’s Club Barbershop is giving back across the Coachella Valley — one haircut at a time.
