Riverside County DA Closes Investigation into Former Palm Springs Councilmember Christy Holstege

The Riverside County District Attorney's Office has announced the closure of its investigation into former Palm Springs Councilmember Christy Holstege. The investigation, which centered on allegations that Holstege did not primarily live in the district she represented, was dismissed after Holstege’s term ended on December 12, 2024. The DA’s office stated that the action, which is typically used to remove someone from office who is illegally occupying it, was no longer applicable because Holstege was no longer holding her council seat.

A statement from the District Attorney’s Office, shared with the Desert Sun, clarified that the notice from the Attorney General regarding the expiration of Holstege’s term led to the dismissal of the investigation. The statement also explained that the application for the action was deemed “moot” and was not pursued further.

Holstege, responding to the investigation’s closure, in a statement to NBC Palm Springs said that the DA’s actions were a politically motivated attack. She claimed the investigation was an attempt to influence the election by discrediting her, alleging that the DA’s office wasted taxpayer dollars on a baseless case that was always destined to be dismissed.

“We believe the District Attorney’s actions were an attempt to sway an election in favor of his endorsed candidate," Holstege stated. "Instead of focusing on issues that truly matter to Riverside County residents, they wasted valuable resources on a frivolous investigation.”

We have reached out to both the District Attorney’s Office and we will continue to monitor and provide updates on this developing story.
