Rubio Secures Deal: El Salvador to Accept U.S. Deportees, Including Criminals

Rubio Secures Deportation Deal During El Salvador Visit

During a diplomatic visit to El Salvador, Secretary of State Marco Rubio took steps to advance both nuclear cooperation and U.S. immigration policies. While meeting with El Salvador’s foreign minister, Rubio signed a memorandum of understanding focused on strategic civil nuclear cooperation between the two nations.

Following the signing, Rubio announced a groundbreaking agreement: El Salvador’s president has offered to accept deportees from the U.S., including individuals of any nationality, MS-13 gang members, and dangerous American criminals currently in custody. Rubio called the offer unprecedented, emphasizing its potential impact on U.S. immigration enforcement.

However, El Salvador’s president stipulated that his country would require financial compensation to house these deportees, effectively outsourcing part of its prison system to the U.S. Officials have not disclosed potential costs or implementation timelines.

This agreement marks a significant shift in U.S.-El Salvador relations and could reshape immigration enforcement strategies. Further details are expected as discussions continue between both governments.
