Captain America: Brave New World Hits Theaters with Anthony Mackie Taking the Shield
The star-spangled shield is back—but this time, it’s in new hands. Captain America: Brave New World opens in theaters this weekend, marking Anthony Mackie’s big-screen debut as the next Captain America.
Mackie’s character, Sam Wilson, first appeared in 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier as Falcon, forming a strong bond with Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers. After a decade-long run in the MCU, Evans passed the shield to Wilson in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. The transition wasn’t easy, as explored in the 2021 Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, where Wilson grappled with the weight of becoming Captain America.
Now, in Brave New World, Wilson steps fully into the role, facing new threats and political challenges. The film also boasts an exciting cast, including Harrison Ford, who takes on the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, stepping into the late William Hurt’s shoes and teasing a major transformation.
With high stakes and epic action, Captain America: Brave New World aims to continue the MCU’s blockbuster legacy. Fans can catch the newest Avenger in action when the film hits theaters this weekend.
