Coachella Valley to Experience Light Rainfall and Cooler Temperatures This Week

The weather today has been as dramatic as it is beautiful, with a live look at the Walter Clark Highway 11 cam in Rancho Mirage showcasing a breathtaking sky. From the dramatic cloud cover to the moon peeking through the night sky, it truly set the stage for a memorable evening.

Earlier today, as the sun set, I mentioned how stunning it looked, and thanks to Douglas, we got to see just how beautiful it really was. The hues of blue and pink from the sunset were absolutely spectacular. Additionally, Kenny from Joshua Tree sent in another beautiful shot that captured the immense cloud cover blanketing Southern California. Thank you both for sharing those moments!

As for the forecast, today’s high reached 68°F, which will be the trend for the rest of the week with cooler temperatures. At this hour, we're sitting comfortably in the 60s in the Coachella Valley, with overnight lows expected to dip into the 50s. But don't get too cozy just yet, because there's a storm on the horizon. Winds will begin picking up tomorrow, with gusts reaching up to 60 miles per hour in the San Gorgonio Pass area, so be cautious if you're traveling along the I-10.

The storm will bring significant rainfall, especially to mountain areas and burn scar zones. These areas are particularly vulnerable due to the quick runoff from rainfall that can easily cause mudslides. For those in the Coachella Valley, expect only light rain accumulation, about a quarter of an inch in some areas, but up to a half inch near North Palm Springs. The storm will begin Thursday morning, and we’ll see more rain as it moves through.

Looking ahead, the seven-day forecast shows temperatures in the 60s for the rest of the week, with a warm-up into the 70s over the weekend. So, hang in there—cooler days are ahead, but the weekend promises to bring some sunshine. Stay safe out there as we navigate this storm!
