Pacific Palisades Homeowners Brace for Mudslides as Rain Approaches

PACIFIC PALISADES – With rain set to hit Pacific Palisades, residents in wildfire-scarred areas are racing to protect their homes from potential mudslides and debris flows. Many homes that survived recent fires are now at risk of being buried under shifting earth as hillsides, stripped of vegetation, become vulnerable to erosion.

Homeowner William Clarahue is taking no chances. “The whole hillside behind me has already slid a little, and now we’re preparing for it to slide even more,” he said while stacking sandbags around his property. Like many residents, Clarahue is using erosion control tubes and sand barriers to redirect water and debris away from his home.

Throughout the area, orange sandbags and green absorption tubes line the streets, soaking up hazardous materials and preventing them from spreading. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is also actively working, beginning phase two of debris removal, a crucial step in stabilizing the landscape.

Officials are urging residents to stay prepared, recommending go-bags and evacuation plans in case of sudden debris flows. With more rain expected, the community remains on high alert, hoping their preparations will keep disaster at bay.
