Accused Killer of United Healthcare CEO Appears in Court for Pretrial Hearing
Luigi Mangione, the man accused of fatally shooting United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City, appeared in court today for the first time since his arraignment in December. The 26-year-old pleaded not guilty to multiple counts of murder in connection with the killing of Thompson.
At the pretrial hearing, the judge set an April 9th date for a motions hearing and established a discovery deadline for late March, giving both sides time to prepare. In addition to the state charges, Mangione faces federal charges that could potentially carry the death penalty, though the state charges are expected to go to trial first.
The case has drawn significant attention, as Thompson, a well-known CEO, was tragically killed in a shooting that has raised numerous questions about the circumstances surrounding his death. Mangione’s legal proceedings will continue to unfold as the case progresses through the court system.
