Eisenhower Health Expands Toxicology Team for 24/7 Specialized Care
Eisenhower Health in Rancho Mirage is strengthening its toxicology services, making it the only hospital in the Coachella Valley with board-certified toxicologists on staff. The expansion allows the hospital to provide 24/7 expert care for cases involving poisoning, overdoses, and toxic exposures, ensuring patients receive immediate, specialized treatment.
Dr. Nathan Friedman, a medical toxicologist at Eisenhower, emphasized the significance of this growth, stating that access to toxicology expertise can be lifesaving, especially in emergencies such as snake bites or severe drug overdoses.
“It certainly could mean the difference between life or death,” Dr. Friedman said.
Before this expansion, residents seeking toxicology services often had to travel to major academic medical centers like UCSD or UCLA. Now, with an additional toxicologist and increased outpatient clinic offerings, Eisenhower Health can provide critical follow-up care without requiring an emergency room visit.
The toxicology team works closely with emergency staff and local first responders, reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to improving patient care and accessibility within the region.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders. Now, Kim is expected to be arraigned in connection with her husband’s death. Court records allege the weapon used was a flagpole.
