Cooler Temperatures and Rain Return to the Coachella Valley

After a weekend of warm temperatures and sunshine, the Coachella Valley is experiencing cooler temperatures and scattered showers as a low-pressure system moves into the region.

Monday’s high temperatures will struggle to get out of the 60s, a sharp contrast from Sunday’s 82 degrees in Palm Springs. A few light rain showers are expected throughout the day, with total accumulation reaching up to two-tenths of an inch in some areas.

Radar shows rain already moving into the western Coachella Valley, with snowfall reported in the San Bernardino Mountains and scattered showers across San Diego County and the Inland Empire.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for San Bernardino County, where snow levels will start around 7,000 feet Wednesday and drop to 4,200 feet by Thursday. By the end of the week, Idyllwild could see up to four inches of snow, while Snow Summit expects 14 inches and the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway could receive 10 inches.

A stronger storm system is set to arrive Thursday, bringing widespread rain, gusty winds, and higher accumulation totals. Forecasters predict two to four-tenths of an inch of rain in the Coachella Valley, with flood watches in effect for the mountains and areas west of the valley. Strong winds will also be a concern, with gusts up to 50 mph possible through the San Gorgonio Pass.

Looking ahead, rain is expected to clear out by Friday, with sunny skies and warming temperatures returning by the weekend. Palm Springs will climb back into the 70s on Saturday, with highs reaching near 80 by Sunday.
