BNP Paribas Open: Świątek and Griekspoor Shine Despite Rain Delays

Weather may have disrupted play at the BNP Paribas Open, but it didn’t stop some of the tournament’s top contenders from making their mark on day seven.

Defending champion Iga Świątek wasted no time in her fourth-round match against Karolína Muchová, taking just under an hour to secure a dominant victory. The Polish star dropped only two games, advancing to the quarterfinals with another commanding performance. Świątek has now won 36 of the 42 games she’s played at Indian Wells and is aiming to become the first woman to claim three titles in the desert.

“For sure, I felt great, even though today my routines, I mean, everybody’s routines get different,” Świątek said. “I was able to adjust, and I’m happy about that.”

On the men’s side, Tallon Griekspoor continued his Cinderella run. After shocking top seed Alexander Zverev, the Dutchman followed up with a victory over Japan’s Yosuke Watanuki. Overcoming a lengthy rain delay, Griekspoor sealed the match with a decisive 6-1 second set, reaching the quarterfinals of a Masters 1000 event for the first time in his career.

“It’s never easy to get back playing after such a good win,” Griekspoor said. “But at the same time, I felt like it was about time that that win was coming. Just got a lot of confidence from it.”

Today’s action begins at 11 a.m. with Coco Gauff facing Belinda Bencic in Stadium 1, while Brandon Nakashima takes on Ben Shelton in Stadium 2. Fans can catch all the matches live on Tennis Channel, available on Spectrum, Dish Network, DirecTV.com, and YouTube TV. Coverage is also accessible via the Tennis Channel app.
