Las Vegas Man Sues Riverside County Sheriff Over Arrest at Trump Rally
A Las Vegas man is suing Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco for $100 million, alleging his civil rights were violated during an arrest near former President Donald Trump’s rally at the Indio Polo Grounds last October. Vem Miller, who was taken into custody for possessing a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine, says the sheriff’s comments have put his life in danger.
Miller held a press conference outside the Riverside County Courthouse, stating that the repercussions of the arrest have impacted him daily. “They publish pictures of every version. I never desired to have this kind of exposure,” he said, claiming the ordeal has led to ongoing threats against him and his family.
At the center of Miller’s lawsuit are comments made by Sheriff Bianco in a press conference following the arrest. Bianco stated, “If you’re asking me right now, I probably did have deputies that prevented the third assassination attempt.” Miller’s attorney argues that these remarks falsely implicated his client and led to unwarranted public backlash.
The lawsuit also claims Miller’s Fourth and First Amendment rights were violated, alleging he was denied medical consent and prevented from attending a political event. “They restricted him from going to a political rally, interfering with his First Amendment rights,” his attorney stated.
Miller insists that since his arrest, he has faced continuous threats, adding, “Every day I get some sort of text or message insinuating threats against myself and my family.”
Riverside County officials have not yet responded to the lawsuit.
