Local High School Students Shine at Fashion Week with Unique Designs
Excitement filled the air at Fashion Week on El Paseo this year, as students from Desert Hot Springs High School took center stage to showcase their creative outfits at the Student Day event. For months, the students had worked tirelessly on their designs, using an unexpected mix of materials such as fabric, pipe cleaners, and even makeup to give their creations vibrant colors and texture. The outfits, which were fully crafted by the students, were not only a testament to their hard work but also to their innovation and passion for fashion.
One of the students, speaking at the event, shared how exhilarating it was to see their designs on display. “It’s very exciting to let the public see what our class design because it’s not really like a lot of recognition from just our school. Being out in the public, everyone gets to see our design,” they said. The opportunity to present their work to a larger audience was a huge milestone for these young designers, who were eager to share their talents with the world.
In addition to the excitement of presenting their creations, the students had the chance to receive valuable advice from some of the top designers in attendance. They were also able to practice their runway walks, which made the experience even more special and enriching. For these students, Fashion Week was not only a moment of public recognition but also a step forward in their journey into the fashion world.

Nearly a year after wildfires tore through Mountain Center, the scars are still visible along the Palms to Pines Highway. Now, fire crews are working to repair those burn areas and reduce the risk of flooding, erosion and mudslides when heavy rain arrives. The work includes fire-line suppression repairs, water bars and other measures designed to slow rainwater and keep burned soil from washing away. CAL FIRE Riverside County Battalion Chief Ryan Lubin says the steep terrain, dry brush and limited access continue to create challenges for mountain communities. With El Niño conditions expected to bring periods of heavy rain, officials say preparing now could help protect homes and communities from the aftermath of wildfire.
