Protests Erupt Nationwide Over President Trump's Push to Privatize USPS
Crowds gathered in cities across the country over the weekend in response to President Donald Trump’s recent push to privatize the United States Postal Service. More than 200 demonstrations were organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers, drawing support from communities concerned about the future of mail service.
The protests come after President Trump announced last month he was considering an executive branch takeover of the USPS in an effort to reduce the agency’s financial losses.
Those at the rallies voiced strong opposition, warning that privatization could lead to widespread service cutbacks—particularly in rural and underserved areas where private carriers are less likely to operate regularly.
“We’re here to protect the Postal Service,” said one protester. “This isn’t just about jobs. It’s about ensuring every American, no matter where they live, has access to essential services.”
Supporters of the public postal system argue it provides critical access to everything from medications and checks to ballots and bills, especially in communities without reliable access to private carriers.
The demonstrations emphasized the USPS's historic role as a unifying national service and called on lawmakers to reject any efforts to dismantle or privatize it.
