Critically Acclaimed Short Becomes Feature Film with Carey Mulligan in The Ballad of Wallace Island

From short film to full-length feature, The Ballad of Wallace Island is a quirky, heartfelt comedy that brings back the beloved characters from the 2007 original short—only this time, with a major addition: Academy Award-nominated actress Carey Mulligan.
Tom Basden and Tim Key reprise their roles as eccentric millionaire Charles and struggling musician Herb. Charles invites Herb to a mysterious island for what seems to be a private concert—but things get awkward quickly when expectations don’t quite match reality.
“It felt natural to return to these characters,” said Key. “We’ve talked for years about how much we loved them. On set, it all just clicked again.”
Mulligan joins the cast as Nell, Herb’s former musical partner and romantic flame. “The script was brilliant from start to finish,” she said. “I just wanted a front row seat to see these guys do what they do best.”
The film blends awkward humor, emotional depth, and British wit, delivering an honest and slightly absurd look at friendship, regret, and reconciliation.

A troubling history is coming to light in a Palm Desert husband’s death. 65-year old Vicky Kim is accused in the death of her husband — but prosecutors say she had previously faced several domestic violence cases involving him. The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office says it had secured protective orders against Kim before a judge later resolved her cases as misdemeanors, released her from custody and terminated those orders.
