Record-Breaking Heat Scorches Coachella Valley, Palm Springs Hits 100 Degrees

Palm Springs and several other cities in Riverside County broke heat records Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. The unseasonably hot weather made for a scorcher across the Coachella Valley and beyond, pushing temperatures well above normal for late March.

In Palm Springs, the high reached 100 degrees, breaking the previous daily record of 97 set in 1988. Thermal hit 101, topping its 1988 record of 100, while Indio sizzled at 102 degrees, breaking its 1988 record of 98. Even Borrego tied its 1990 record at 97 degrees, and Lake Cuyamaca edged past its 1940 record with a high of 76.

It wasn’t just the daytime heat making headlines. Minimum temperature records were also shattered overnight:

  • Palm Springs recorded a low of 68, breaking the 2022 record of 66.

  • Indio saw a low of 69, beating the 2015 record of 67.

  • Borrego matched its warmest overnight low of 65, originally set in 2012.

According to forecasters, the Coachella Valley will remain hot and breezy through Wednesday, with highs expected in the mid-90s. Relief is on the way, though—cooler temperatures are forecast for the weekend.
