Empower Her Athlete Club Supports Women
At Desert Hot Springs High School, a newly formed club called "Empower Her Athlete" is making a positive impact on female athletes. The club is dedicated to fostering confidence, leadership, and recognition for young women both on and off the field. Through various initiatives, the group works to break down barriers and stereotypes in the world of sports. Established just a few months ago, the club has already garnered attention from many athletes across multiple sports, offering them a safe and supportive space. The club's leader, Rita Leyva, a Desert Hot Springs alumna and former athlete, plays an essential role in guiding the group. She collaborates with the student board to ensure that female athletes are celebrated for their achievements. One of their major campaigns is focused on spotlighting the challenges and triumphs faced by female athletes through interviews shared on the club's Instagram. These efforts not only recognize athletes' successes but also create a platform for them to share their experiences. Club members like Jajayra "JJ" Delgado and Elissa-Mae Blaylock express how the community they have built has helped them grow personally and athletically. The club has become an important part of their high school experience, helping to amplify the voices of young women in sports. As the group continues to grow, they aim to inspire future generations of female athletes. Their long-term goal is to create similar programs at other schools to further empower women in sports.
