IID Launches Monthlong Coachella Valley Tour to Share Energy Updates, Offer Bill Assistance

Starting this week, Imperial Irrigation District (IID) customers across the Coachella Valley will have the chance to learn more about upcoming infrastructure projects and receive help with energy bill assistance.

As reported by City News Service, IID’s "Powering Our Community Together" open house tour runs from April 1 to April 29, making 15 stops throughout the region. The first local event is scheduled for 6 p.m. Friday at the Mecca Family & Farmworkers’ Service Center, located at 91-275 66th Avenue.

“These open houses are about building trust, sharing information and showing our customers that we're here for them,” said IID Board Chairwoman Gina Dockstader. “Whether it’s help with a bill, questions about rates, or learning how we’re preparing the power grid for the future, this is a chance for our communities to connect with us face-to-face.”

The nonprofit utility, which serves a 6,500-square-mile area across most of Imperial County and eastern Riverside County, is currently in the midst of a 15-year, $3.34 billion infrastructure modernization program. The plan includes more than 270 projects, ranging from grid upgrades and transmission line replacements to generation plant re-engineering and hydro turbine refurbishments.

IID representatives will also be available to discuss recent rate adjustments, which officials say are keeping local electricity rates among the lowest in California.

Customers will have the opportunity to apply on-site for energy cost reduction programs. IID recommends bringing the following documents: income verification for all adults in the household, Social Security numbers, identification, and recent tax returns.

Stops on the tour include Mecca, Indio, and La Quinta. A full schedule is available at www.iid.com/about-iid/together.
