Businesses Brace for Trump’s Tariff Plan Ahead of ‘Liberation Day’ Unveiling
Businesses nationwide are bracing for impact as President Trump prepares to unveil what he’s calling “Liberation Day” this Wednesday—his most expansive set of tariffs to date. The sweeping trade plan is expected to affect all U.S. trading partners, though the White House has yet to release detailed information about which products and countries will be targeted.
“Whatever they charge us, we charge them,” Trump said, adding, “but we’re being nicer than they were.”
Industries ranging from auto dealerships and distilleries to bridal shops are already expressing concern about increased costs for imported materials, which could lead to price hikes for American consumers.
“We are already bumping into affordability issues with interest rates,” said one car dealer. Meanwhile, some wedding dress designers have paused orders, citing tariff-related uncertainty.
At the same time, two key special elections could provide insight into how voters feel about Trump’s trade policies and broader agenda. In Wisconsin, a high-stakes Supreme Court race—backed by Trump ally Elon Musk—could influence redistricting in this critical swing state.
“He’s trying to buy the election,” one voter said, warning about potential impacts beyond Wisconsin.
In Florida, two vacant congressional seats—left open by Trump administration appointments—are on the ballot. With Republicans clinging to a narrow House majority, any shift could affect how easily the president can move his agenda forward.
Some GOP lawmakers are voicing caution over the economic effects of a trade war.
“In the end, a trade war doesn’t help anybody,” one Republican noted.
President Trump is expected to announce full details of the tariff package during a Rose Garden event on Wednesday.
