Palm Springs Unified School District Hosts Hiring Event to Fill Bus Driver Shortage
Palm Springs is currently facing a bus driver shortage, and the Palm Springs Unified School District is working to fill those crucial positions with the help of a hiring event. The event, hosted by Zum, the transportation company responsible for school bus services, is aimed at recruiting certified school bus drivers, non-CDL drivers, and attendants.
Eric, the general manager for Zum, spoke about the company’s unique offerings for both students and families. Zum is not only providing new buses with air conditioning, a first for Palm Springs, but also a technology platform that enhances efficiency and communication. This platform includes a parent app that allows families to track their child’s bus arrival and pick-up times, adding an extra layer of transparency and security.
One of the key features of the Zum service is the use of advanced cameras on the buses. These cameras monitor traffic conditions, read road signs, and ensure drivers are performing their duties correctly. This adds an extra layer of security and peace of mind for both the district and parents.
The hiring event has seen a great turnout so far, with Zum looking to fill these vital roles. The event is being held at the Courtyard Marriott in Palm Springs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow. Eric emphasized that no prior bus driving experience is necessary to apply. Individuals with a clean background and a passion for serving the community are encouraged to come out and learn about becoming a school bus driver.
As Antonio Marquez shared during the report, these positions offer competitive pay, which might even inspire a career change for those interested in supporting the local community while working in a secure and supportive environment.
For anyone interested, the hiring event continues tomorrow at the Courtyard Marriott, and all are welcome to walk in and apply; Thursday, April 3, 2025 at the Courtyard Marriott Palm Springs (1300 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, Palm Springs, CA 92262) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT.
