SeaWorld San Diego Debuts Mesmerizing Jellyfish Experience ‘Jewels of the Sea’
A new kind of underwater wonder has arrived at SeaWorld San Diego—and it's both mesmerizing and educational. On Desert Living, we got an inside look at the park’s newest attraction, Jewels of the Sea, a multi-gallery jellyfish experience designed to immerse guests in the beauty and science of these captivating creatures.
SeaWorld’s Manager of Education and Conservation, Mike Dunn, walked us through the exhibit, which features nine species of jellyfish across three themed galleries, including the Medusa Gallery lit with vibrant LED screens.
"Jellies are unbelievably simple yet complex," Dunn explained. "They don’t have hearts, lungs, or even brains, yet they function perfectly with neural nets and absorb oxygen directly from the water."
Among the featured species is the Pacific sea nettle, native to the U.S. West Coast, including waters just off San Diego. The exhibit not only entertains but also informs visitors of jellyfish’s crucial role in ocean ecosystems—as both predators and prey.
Whether you’re a science buff or just love the visual spectacle of nature, Jewels of the Sea offers a unique experience for guests of all ages.
