Cathedral City Neighbors Demand Action as Verbal Abuse From Bullhorn Couple Escalates Again
In Cathedral City, a situation that once sparked community outrage is flaring up again. The now-infamous “bullhorn bully” incident—where a woman used a bullhorn to shout racial and homophobic slurs at her neighbors—seemed to calm down after police removed her device. But the peace didn’t last.
Now, her husband has taken to shouting similar insults aloud in the yard, directly impacting quality of life and property values in the neighborhood. One resident trying to sell their home reports potential buyers being driven off by the loud, abusive taunts.
The police, facing a delicate situation involving elderly individuals, say their hands may be tied. The couple’s age and the husband’s reported health issues complicate enforcement, but neighbors argue that doesn’t excuse the behavior.
Community contributors Nick Collins and Jill Marie Plaza joined the discussion on NBC Palm Springs, calling for stronger intervention. Jill suggested a 72-hour mental health evaluation, while Nick proposed sound-based countermeasures and legal pressure. Both agree that code enforcement or updated ordinances might offer a longer-term solution.
As frustrations grow, the central question remains: What legal tools exist to protect residents from verbal abuse that doesn’t quite cross the line into arrestable offenses?
