As spring break and summer vacations approach, many travelers are making plans, and according to financial experts, a credit card might just be your most essential travel companion.
Richard Hunt, Executive Chairman of the Electronic Payments Coalition, joined Desert Living to highlight the benefits of using credit cards for travel bookings. Hunt emphasizes that credit cards offer not only safety and security but also valuable rewards programs. In fact, over 15 million people use airline reward points each year for trips worldwide.
Using a credit card for all travel-related purchases can also provide cash-back options, helping offset everyday expenses like groceries. Additionally, regularly using a credit card responsibly helps improve your credit score—an essential factor for future financial goals such as purchasing a home.
To prevent fraud while traveling, Hunt advises travelers to inform their credit card company when traveling overseas and to monitor transactions daily to quickly identify unauthorized charges. He reassured travelers that billions of dollars are invested annually to maintain the security of credit card systems.
However, Hunt pointed out potential legislative threats to these consumer benefits. Proposed legislation in Washington, specifically the Marshall Durbin credit card mandate bill, could significantly alter how credit cards are processed, potentially compromising security measures and rewards programs.

BREAKING: Human remains believed to be those of 17-year-old T’neya Tovar have been discovered at a second site in the Salton City area, according to the Imperial County District Attorney’s Office. A skull and rib cage were found during a search involving Imperial County investigators and the FBI. Testing is still needed to confirm the remains belong to Tovar. The discovery comes one day after suspect Finebloom pleaded guilty to torture and voluntary manslaughter as part of a plea agreement that could result in a sentence of 13 years to life. Salton city resident Abraham Feinbloom is expected to take a plea deal in the murder case of 17 year old T’Neya Tovar. Under the plea deal obtained by the Imperial County Criminal Courthouse, Feinbloom will plead guilty to one count of torture and voluntary manslaughter. According to court records, he is also expected to assist law enforcement in finding the rest of the victim’s remains.
