Easter Ham Tips with Chef Tim Ziga of Honey Baked Ham Company
With Easter right around the corner, many families are preparing to gather around the dinner table—and for most, that centerpiece will be a juicy, spiral-cut ham. On Desert Living, Chef Tim Ziga from the Honey Baked Ham Company stopped by with everything you need to know to make your Easter meal both easy and unforgettable.
“About 8 in 10 households will serve ham this Easter,” Ziga said, adding that the key to getting the right size is to estimate about half a pound of ham per person. “I like to buy a pound or two extra just for leftovers,” he added.
Featured on the show was the company’s bone-in half ham, fully cooked, pre-sliced, and topped with Honey Baked’s signature sweet and crunchy glaze. “All you need to do is take it out about 30 minutes before serving to let it come to room temperature—that's when the flavor really pops.”
When it comes to side dishes, Ziga shared a few classics that pair perfectly with ham: double cheddar macaroni and cheese, potatoes au gratin, green bean casserole, and baked cinnamon apples. He also suggested lighter spring fare like roasted broccoli, glazed carrots, and sautéed asparagus to round out the Easter menu.
But the star of any holiday meal, Ziga says, might just be the leftovers. His favorite? Hot ham and cheese sliders. “Just stack leftover ham on slider buns with your favorite cheese, brush on some seasoned melted butter, and bake at 375 degrees for about 20 minutes.”
