Measles Cases Surge Nationwide, Over 650 Reported Across 22 States

Measles cases are rapidly increasing across the United States, with more than 650 reported infections spanning 22 states, including the nation's capital, Washington, D.C.

Three additional states have recently confirmed new cases, some involving children too young to receive vaccinations. The outbreak’s epicenter is Texas, where the number of cases has climbed past 500. Among the most concerning clusters is a daycare outbreak where unvaccinated children were exposed to the virus.

Health experts emphasize that measles is highly contagious—but also completely preventable.

“We know that measles is completely preventable, and it's preventable through vaccinations,” said one public health official.

The CDC and local health departments are urging the public to ensure they and their children are up to date on their measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccinations. The disease, while rare in the U.S. due to decades of widespread immunization, has seen a resurgence in areas with lower vaccination rates.
