Rancho Mirage Ties Heat Record as Triple Digits Continue Through Saturday
A scorcher in Rancho Mirage today, where the high temperature reached 101 degrees—tying a heat record set back in 1989. The normal high for this time of year is 87, making today’s weather well above average for the Coachella Valley.
Clear blue skies with just a few high clouds were captured on the Walter Clark Highland Cam. While conditions are calm now, more high clouds are expected to move in as we head into the weekend.
Current temperatures:
Palm Springs: Still in the triple digits
Indio: 97 degrees
High Desert communities: 80s
Overnight lows in the low desert will stay in the 70s, offering warm and pleasant conditions for evening walks—perfect for those waiting until after sundown to head outside with pets.
Wind conditions:
Calm today but will pick up Saturday
Gusts expected to reach 40–50 mph in the wind corridor
Travel on I-10 west toward the coast may be impacted
The heat is being driven by a ridge of high pressure that’s continuing to strengthen. Friday’s forecast calls for temperatures between 100 and 105, and Saturday could bring one last push of triple-digit heat before the weather begins to shift.
A cool down begins Sunday, with highs dropping back into the 90s. By Wednesday, the Coachella Valley could see daytime temperatures in the 80s as a trough of low pressure moves into Southern California, potentially bringing storm activity along with it.

Palm Springs is mourning the loss of beloved entertainer James “Gypsy” Haake, who has died at 94. Haake began his entertainment career at just 19 years old as a Broadway chorus dancer. After retiring from the stage, he returned to performing at 82, becoming the host of Carnival Cabaret at Oscars in downtown Palm Springs. A longtime friend of our station, Haake was a familiar and beloved figure in the Palm Springs entertainment community — and his contributions were recognized with a star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars.
