Surveillance Captures Thieves Stealing Three Teslas in Bold Miami Break-In
Miami, FL — A bold and costly crime was caught on surveillance video early Thursday morning as two thieves broke into a lot and stole three Teslas in a brazen act that left behind thousands of dollars in damage.
The incident occurred at a property off Northwest 38th Court and 26th Street in Miami, where a local tire shop leases space to a company that repairs and stores Teslas. Surveillance footage shows the suspects jumping a fence and quickly making their move—ramming a locked gate with one of the electric vehicles to force their way out.
“It was pretty bold. They just went straight into the gate,” said Alyssa Hidalgo, the site’s sales director.
After crashing the first vehicle, one suspect abandoned it and took off in another Tesla, while the second suspect made off with a red model. In total, two Teslas were stolen, and one was left behind with front-end damage.
“It was crazy… I don’t know how they did it. They did it pretty easily,” said one employee at the shop. The estimated cost of the damaged gate alone is around $3,000.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene just after 1:30 a.m. and began reviewing surveillance footage. Investigators are now working to determine how the suspects were able to access and start the high-tech vehicles so quickly.
“It’s really sad and scary to know that this happens,” Hidalgo said. “We work here every day. We’re all very close, and it’s sad to see people take advantage of that.”
Authorities are hoping the surveillance footage will help lead to the identification and arrest of the car thieves responsible for the early morning heist.
