Parkview Mobile Estates Residents Left Without Power for Over a Week as Triple-Digit Heat Sets In
It's been more than a week since residents at Parkview Mobile Estates, a 55-and-older mobile home community in Palm Springs, lost power—and with triple-digit temperatures returning to the desert, concerns are growing about the health and safety of those affected.
NBC Palm Springs’ Antonio Marquez reports that the outage has now stretched into its eighth day, with residents still unsure when electricity will be restored.
“Everybody here is over 55,” said resident Rick Metzger, who shared how critical power is to everyday life. “Some people run businesses out of their homes. I bought a generator for $900 to power the basics, like my refrigerator. But you can’t run an air conditioner on a generator.”
The outage is not related to the two-year utility replacement project currently underway at the park, and Southern California Edison has confirmed this is a private park issue. Despite the prolonged outage, management has yet to bring in a large-scale contractor to expedite repairs.
Management has offered hotel reimbursements, but with Coachella Festival drawing thousands to the area, rooms are virtually sold out, leaving many residents without viable alternatives.
NBC Palm Springs reached out to the property management company for comment, but they declined to provide a statement.
With no clear end in sight, residents fear what the rest of the spring and summer may bring. “We have no idea when the power will come back on,” Metzger said. “And that puts all of us at risk.”
