Woman Struck, Killed in Fatal Collision on I-10 in Whitewater

A 40 year old woman was struck and killed when a big rig collided with her vehicle on Interstate 10 Freeway in Whitewater. The fatal crash occurred shortly after midnight Thursday morning on eastbound I-10 west of Haugen-Lehmann Way. The agency stated the woman was eastbound on Interstate 10 in a Volkswagen Jetta when, for reasons unknown, she crashed into a concrete guardrail, which left her vehicle disabled in the third and fourth lanes. A short time later, a 22 year old Imperial County man at the wheel of a Peterbuilt rig struck the left side of the Jetta. Paramedics pronounced the driver of the car dead at the scene. The Riverside Coroner's Office identified her as Dianna Bocanegra of Ontario. The big rig driver was evaluated at the scene by paramedics. Neither alcohol nor drugs were suspected factors in the crash.
