Egg Prices Hit Record Despite Predictions
U.S. egg prices rose once again last month, reaching a new record-high of $6.23 per dozen. This spike comes despite earlier predictions by former President Donald Trump that prices would decrease. Surprisingly, the increase followed a drop in wholesale egg prices. No bird flu outbreaks were reported at any egg farms during the past month. Typically, these factors would suggest price stability or even a decrease. However, consumer demand remains high—especially leading into the Easter season. Easter falls on April 20 this year, often a peak period for egg purchases. The price hike was confirmed in the latest Consumer Price Index report released Thursday. For households, that means more costly grocery trips. And for restaurants and food businesses, the squeeze on ingredients continues. Analysts warn that immediate relief is unlikely. It may take weeks—if not months—for prices to stabilize after the holiday rush.
