Man Arrested for Coachella Bomb Threat with Help from Flock Safety Surveillance
A man is in custody after making a bomb threat at Agua Caliente casinos amid the bustling activity surrounding the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. The suspect, identified as 40-year-old Davis Darvish, was swiftly apprehended with the aid of Flock Safety, a high-tech surveillance network utilized across nearly every city in the Coachella Valley—except for Coachella itself.
Flock Safety is a 24/7 surveillance system that uses license plate recognition and real-time data sharing to assist law enforcement in tracking vehicles connected to criminal investigations. According to Palm Springs Police Department Lieutenant Mike Villegas, it’s become one of the most frequently used tools in their investigations.
“It helps us if we were to have any type of crime within the city and we have a suspect—whether it's a description or a license plate,” Lt. Villegas said. “It’s going to tell us if the vehicle has left the city or when it actually came into the city.”
The system’s effectiveness lies not only in its technology but also in the collaboration it fosters among law enforcement agencies throughout the valley. Cathedral City Detective Ramirez emphasized that cooperation across jurisdictions was key in this arrest.
“So it was thanks to the information sharing. It was the swift and rapid response from initial patrol officers. And thanks to that information, detectives were also involved, and we were able to apprehend [the suspect],” said Ramirez. “A lot of times, a successful outcome will not be possible without teamwork.”
Darvish’s arrest was a joint effort resulting from that teamwork. His bail has been set at $1 million, and his next court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday.
As the investigation continues, authorities have assured the public they are taking all necessary measures to maintain safety during the festival and surrounding events.
