Suspect Arrested After Bomb Threat Tied to Coachella; Flock Cameras Helped Track Vehicle
Authorities arrested a suspect over the weekend following a bomb threat made in connection with the Coachella Music and Arts Festival. The threat was directed at security personnel working at Agua Caliente Casinos, raising alarm during the festival’s second weekend.
Palm Springs Police Lt. Mike Villegas says the department used Flock surveillance cameras to help identify and locate the suspect’s vehicle. “It helps us if we were to have any type of crime within the city and we have a suspect—whether it's a description or a license plate,” said Villegas. “It's going to tell us if the vehicle has left the city or when it actually came into the city.”
Flock cameras, which automatically scan license plates, are widely used by law enforcement agencies across the Coachella Valley and beyond. They play a crucial role not only in criminal investigations, but also in locating missing persons and tracking stolen vehicles.
Cathedral City Detective Ramirez emphasized the value of collaboration between agencies during investigations. “It was the swift and rapid response from initial patrol officers. And thanks to that information, detectives were able to apprehend [the suspect],” Ramirez said. “Everything comes down to teamwork and information sharing.”
Authorities have not released the name of the suspect or additional details about charges, but the case remains under investigation.
