Coachella Weekend One Sees Spike in Arrests, Parking Violations, and Traffic Delays
The first weekend of the Coachella Music and Arts Festival brought tens of thousands to the desert—and with it, a surge in public safety concerns.
According to local law enforcement, there were 95 arrests over the weekend, marking a 17 percent increase from the previous year. In addition, officers issued 82 citations for handicapped parking violations, a staggering 75 percent jump year over year.
Traffic delays also added to the headaches. Officials say campers arrived earlier than expected, clogging entry routes and causing significant backups throughout Indio and surrounding areas.
Authorities are urging attendees to remain vigilant. “If you see something, say something,” the department advised. Anyone with information or concerns is encouraged to call Coachella Valley Crime Stoppers at 760-341-STOP.
As weekend two approaches, officials hope for fewer violations and smoother traffic flow, but they’re reminding festivalgoers to plan ahead, park responsibly, and prioritize safety.
