Deputies Rescue Hiker Dangling From Cliff near Whitewater
An incredible video shows Riverside County deputies rescuing a hiker who was stuck on a cliff near Whitewater.
The dramatic rescue happened Sunday off the Pacific Crest Trail.
The woman had used a satellite phone to send out an SOS.
She had been clinging to a narrow ledge for about an hour.
One wrong move could’ve sent her plummeting thousands of feet.
Rescuers say it was an extremely difficult operation.
Cory Allen, the helicopter operator, explained how precise they had to be.
He asked the pilot to stay 200 feet above to avoid blowing the hiker off.
Jason Beeman was lowered down to reach her.
The woman was shaking and exhausted when he got to her.
Beeman wrapped her in a bear hug to carry her to safety.
Despite the danger, the team stayed calm and relied on their training.
