Indio Police Crack Down Festival Driving

Local law enforcement is stepping up warnings about impaired and distracted driving during festival season.
With Coachella wrapping up and Stagecoach around the corner, the Indio Police Department is urging people to plan ahead.
This year’s second Coachella weekend saw a 40% spike in arrests compared to last year.
Officers made 112 arrests, including 24 for public intoxication and 26 for fake IDs.
Some who hoped for a limo ride ended up in the back of a squad car.
Police say flashing lights aren’t as fun when they come from patrol vehicles.
They want festivalgoers to avoid driving under the influence at all costs.
Sergeant Jesse Yuhas of the Indio Police Traffic Division stressed early planning.
Stagecoach 2023 saw 124 arrests, with 63 tied to drugs or alcohol.
Officers also issued 83 citations for misusing handicapped parking placards.
Distracted driving remains a major concern during festival traffic surges.
Law enforcement is asking attendees to be responsible and stay safe.
