Dab Me Up!

It’s Thursday, April 17th, and we’re riding into the day with trivia hats on and hands ready for high-fives—because it’s National High Five Day, y’all!

At NBC Palm Springs, we’re all about the strange, the sentimental, and the snackable holidays, and today was packed. From Ford Mustangs to Ellis Island to questionable cheese-based party snacks, we’re breaking it all down—pop quiz style, of course.

✋ A High-Five History Lesson

So here’s the deal: the first documented high-five supposedly happened at a Dodgers game in 1977. But while watching The Wild One (yes, the Marlon Brando classic from 1953), one of us spotted a sneaky little high-five moment.

Proof that cool was alive way before '77.

🧀 Cheese Balls, Ellis Island & Family Roots

National Ellis Island Family History Day reminded us of our roots. One of us has a great-granddad who came through Ellis Island, and one of us… hasn’t checked yet. (Note to self: call Grandma.)

Then it was on to National Cheese Ball Day. Not the puffy orange snack, not the goofy friend in your group chat—but the actual ball of cheese, rolled in nuts and herbs, sitting proudly on party platters across America.

None of us have actually eaten one, but hey—it’s now on the to-do list.

🐎 Mustang Day = Story Time & Quiz Time

National Ford Mustang Day kicked nostalgia into high gear. Everyone had a Mustang story—from convertible classics to rust-bucket first rides. One had a car so rusty you could see the road through the floorboards. Another had a passenger door that flew open on sharp turns. Ah, the memories.

Naturally, it was time for a Mustang trivia showdown:

❓ Trivia Q1: How Did the Mustang Get Its Name?
The Ford Mustang was introduced on April 17, 1964, and sold over 400,000 units in its first year (not too shabby). But where did the name come from?

A) A Fender guitar
B) A wild horse
C) A WWII fighter plane

❓ Trivia Q2: What's the Name of Cal Poly's Mustang Mascot?

Next up: mascot trivia. Cal Poly San Luis Obispo’s teams are called the Mustangs—but what’s their mascot’s actual name?

A) Major
B) Marshall
C) Musty

Whether you got them right, guessed your way through, or just came for the cheese balls, we hope today’s trivia gave you a laugh and maybe even a fun fact to drop at dinner.

Until next time—giddy up, give someone a high five, and for the love of laundry, check those car floorboards.
