Water Wise Wednesday

Perry’s Agave Shines in April’s Water Wise Wednesday

It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another Water Wise Wednesday, brought to you by the Coachella Valley Water District. Each month, the segment highlights a drought-tolerant, desert-friendly plant—and for April, the spotlight is on the elegant Perry’s Agave.

Lorraine Garcia with the Coachella Valley Water District introduced the plant, describing it as a beautiful accent addition to any desert landscape. “It has gray-green leaves and forms a rounded rosette shape,” Garcia said. “It really adds character to water-wise gardens.”

While the Perry’s Agave doesn’t bloom until the end of its life cycle, it produces plenty of offshoots—known as “pups”—that can be replanted elsewhere, making it a sustainable and cost-effective choice for homeowners looking to expand their gardens.

You can find Perry’s Agave and other water-efficient plants at local nurseries throughout the Coachella Valley.
