75 Years Later, Childhood Friends Reunite in Las Vegas

Some friendships are meant to last a lifetime—even if decades pass between visits.

That’s the case for Sheila, Janice, Geneva, Betty Ann, and Peggy, a group of childhood friends who hadn’t seen each other since 8th grade graduation. Nearly 75 years later, they finally reunited in Las Vegas for a heartwarming and laughter-filled gathering.

Their story began in the late 1940s, but as life moved forward—marriages, careers, families—they each went their separate ways, eventually settling in different parts of the country. For years, they kept in touch through letters, and more recently through social media, but getting everyone together in person always seemed just out of reach.

“I think some of it was we were married, husbands working, didn’t want to leave without them,” said Sheila Chamberlain. “We always wanted them to come too.”

Now in their 80s and having all lost their spouses, the timing finally aligned. As Geneva Nettles put it, “They don’t seem like friends—they feel like long-lost family.”

And like any family, their reunion was full of memories. From childhood baseball games to sneaking into drive-in theaters, the stories flowed with ease.

“We wore jeans, and that was a no-no back in the day. We had to stay after school,” laughed Peggy Johnson. “And one time I got caught sneaking into the drive-in—I was hiding in the trunk.”

There were tears too, as the women recalled personal losses, but the reunion offered comfort and connection they hadn’t had in years.

“I think it’s caring about each other,” said Janice Hill. “None of us are perfect. We just look past the little things.”

The friends hope to reunite annually from now on, proving that real friendship doesn’t fade—it only grows stronger with time.
