8 Year Old Desert Hot Springs Girl Safe After Abduction, Father In Custody
An 8-year-old girl is now safely back home unharmed following an abduction by her non-custodial father.
According to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department, they received a call about an abducted child at 8:40 p.m. on Thursday.
Upon arriving at the scene, they determined that 33-year-old Oscar Landeros had taken the child following a limited court-ordered visit. Authorities say that he is not the custodial parent and had made numerous threats to harm himself and his daughter.
Authorities later found Landeros at about 1:30 a.m. Friday morning on the I-10 freeway near Beaumont. After a pursuit ending in Palm Desert, Landeros was booked at the John Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of kidnapping, among other felonies.
He is being held on $500,000 bail and is scheduled to be formally charged in Indio on Tuesday.
