Palm Springs Animal Shelter Hosts Big Dog Bonanza with Free Adoptions and Perks
The Palm Springs Animal Shelter is putting out a call for help. The shelter is currently over capacity, especially when it comes to large dogs—and they’re hoping the community will step up during their upcoming adoption event.
The shelter’s Big Dog Bonanza will run from April 25 through April 27, and all adoption fees for large dogs will be waived during the three-day event.
“We have over 200 animals in our care right now,” said Cheyenne May, Operations Director at the Palm Springs Animal Shelter. “Almost 100 are available for adoption, and the majority of those are large dogs.”
During a live segment with NBC Palm Springs' Tiani Jadling, Cheyenne introduced Darla, one of the big dogs looking for a home. “Our large dogs just don’t get adopted as quickly, even though many of them are near perfect,” she added.
In addition to waived adoption fees, new pet owners will also receive six months of dog food courtesy of Lucy Pet Food, and a full year of free vaccinations for their adopted large dog.
While small dogs and kittens tend to find homes quickly, larger dogs like Darla are often overlooked. Shelter staff hope the added incentives will help change that.
For those who don’t want to wait until the event, regular adoption fees for large dogs are already low—just $25.
