Velociraptors, Marbles, and Crackers: Friday’s Hashtag Holidays Get Prehistoric and Snacky

It’s Friday, April 18, and that means it’s time for the always-entertaining Hashtag Holiday Calendar and Pop Quiz, brought to you by Inland Empire Health Plan. Maddie and the crew had a wild lineup of offbeat celebrations to kick off the weekend—and some snack-worthy trivia to go with it.

First up: National Velociraptor Day. Though they’ve been extinct for about 70 million years, velociraptors are still a fan-favorite dinosaur, thanks in part to their portrayal in films. In reality, they stood about two feet high, were covered in feathers, and were more birdlike than the Hollywood monsters we know. Maddie summed it up perfectly: “Feathers? No thanks.”

Also on today’s list: World Marbles Day—a nod to the classic kids’ game. If you remember the difference between a cat’s eye and a swirly, you’re in good company. And, of course, it wouldn’t be Friday without a little humor. “If you had 100 marbles and lost 96, how far off your marbles would you be?” one anchor joked.

Then came International Jugglers Day, celebrating anyone who can juggle balls, rings, or—if you’re brave—chainsaws. And rounding things out, National Animal Crackers Day, honoring the nostalgic snack that’s been a lunchbox staple since 1902.

The team followed up with two cracker-themed pop quiz questions. The first? Which Meat Loaf song contains the lyric: “There ain’t no Coupe de Ville hiding in the bottom of a Cracker Jack box”? The answer: “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad.”

The second stumped almost everyone: In 2023, which cracker brand ran an ad campaign featuring Gordon Ramsay with the slogan “unapologetically wholesome”? The answer: Triscuit.

As one anchor joked, “Ritz is too buttery. Wheat Thins are dangerous—I could eat the whole box.”

From prehistoric predators to pop quizzes and pantry snacks, this Friday’s Hashtag Calendar had something for everyone—and left us all craving a box of crackers.
