“Sinners” Tops Box Office With Big Debut
A new supernatural thriller has taken over the box office this weekend.
“Sinners,” starring Michael B. Jordan in dual roles, debuted at number one.
The action-horror film brought in $45.6 million in its opening weekend.
That performance knocked “A Minecraft Movie” out of the top spot after two weeks.
Still, the video game-inspired hit added another $41.3 million, raising its domestic total to an impressive $345 million in just 17 days.
“The King of Kings” came in third place with $17.3 million.
Spy thriller “The Amateur” earned $7.2 million, landing it in fourth place.
Warfare-themed action film “Warfare” rounded out the top five with $4.9 million.
It was a strong weekend overall for theaters, with thrillers and action dominating the charts.
“Sinners” had a strong promotional push and benefited from Jordan’s star power.
Its mix of supernatural suspense and gritty action drew large crowds.
Early signs suggest the film could hold steady in the coming weeks.
