Massive Wildfire Threatens Homes and Farms in New Jersey

A large wildfire in Ocean County, New Jersey is forcing evacuations and triggering memories of recent destructive wildfires in California. The blaze began just before 12:30 p.m. yesterday and has already scorched approximately 8,500 acres. Authorities report that over 1,300 structures are currently under threat.

Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued for residents in the fire’s path, and several key roads in the area are closed to ensure public safety. Local farmers have begun the difficult task of evacuating animals from their properties as the fire spreads.

Some residents, while fleeing, compared the current conditions to California’s notorious Santa Ana wind-driven fires. “These winds are not helping us today,” one evacuee said. “The fire’s unpredictable, and when you have large animals, it makes it really scary.”

A significant firefighting response is underway, including helicopters and an air tanker capable of dropping hundreds of gallons of water in each pass. Fire officials say they are doing everything possible to protect lives, homes, and livestock.
