Rancho Mirage Hosts First-Ever Earth Day Celebration Promoting Sustainability
The City of Rancho Mirage celebrated its first official Earth Day event on Sunday, offering the community a chance to connect, learn, and act in support of the environment. Hosted at the Rancho Mirage Library, the event featured a variety of eco-conscious activities designed to promote sustainability and environmental awareness.
Jess Higgins, program coordinator for the city’s Office of Sustainability, said the event aimed to both celebrate Earth Day and provide hands-on experiences for residents. “We’re doing shredding, e-waste disposal, and collecting donations with Angel View. Inside the library, we’re hosting free activities for kids and adults—all centered around sustainability,” Higgins shared.
The event also showcased contributions from local organizations, including Sunnylands, a date farmer, and a microgreens farmer, highlighting the importance of sustainable agriculture in the region. Nonprofits like the FIND Food Bank participated to inform residents about community services.
Leading up to Earth Day, the city organized "Walk the Washes," a cleanup effort that brought volunteers together to remove trash from local washes and encourage outdoor appreciation.
Attendees described the atmosphere as uplifting and unifying, noting the strong sense of community and shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
“This is just the beginning,” organizers said. “We plan to grow this event every year and continue to educate and inspire our community.”
