Temalpakh Farm: Coachella’s Hidden Gem Rooted in Culture and Sustainability

While checking out this year’s Desert X installations in the Coachella Valley, we stumbled upon something truly unexpected—a quiet oasis bursting with flavor, history, and purpose: Temalpakh Farm Market.

Chief Marketing Officer Lindsay Grant was on the scene to uncover the story behind this special spot. “Temalpakh” means from the earth, and the farm is a vibrant project launched by the Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians. The tribe’s mission here? To grow fresh, organic produce not only for the tribe itself but also for the wider public—all while staying deeply rooted in sustainability and self-sufficiency.

“It makes sense,” Grant says, “because it ties in beautifully with the Desert X exhibit, Ghost Ride: Moving Off the Land. Both celebrate a return to the earth, a reconnection with land and heritage.”

Visitors can expect more than just a farmers’ market. Yes, there’s an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, but there’s also something truly special: a smoothie bar where everything is made fresh from the farm’s bounty.

Inside, the crew tried a house specialty: a rich, cold brew smoothie sweetened with local date syrup.

With its organic ethos, Indigenous roots, and unforgettable flavors, Temalpakh Farm Market is truly a hidden gem in Coachella. Whether you're visiting Desert X or just craving something earthy and nourishing, it's worth the stop.

So next time you're in town—get a shake, and get grounded.
