High Winds Arrive as Stagecoach Festival Kicks Off, Impacting Roads and RV Camping
Just as the Stagecoach Music Festival gets underway in Indio, the Coachella Valley is experiencing powerful winds that are already causing disruptions.
RV camping officially opened Friday morning, kicking off the first wave of arrivals for the sold-out, three-day country music event. Thousands are expected to flock to the area, but this year, festival-goers are greeted with an added challenge—high winds sweeping through the region.
The windy weather coincides with increased road activity around the Empire Polo Grounds, where the festival takes place. Local officials warn that Monroe Street, Washington Street, and Jefferson Street will be the most heavily impacted roadways through Monday. Drivers should expect delays and use caution, especially as blowing dust and gusty conditions may reduce visibility and affect high-profile vehicles like RVs.
On Thursday, the winds already caused damage in nearby Desert Hot Springs, where a Chevron gas station canopy was partially ripped off by powerful gusts. With strong winds expected to continue into the weekend, safety precautions are being emphasized by both local authorities and festival organizers.
As thousands roll in for one of the country’s biggest music weekends, travelers are urged to prepare for delays, drive safely, and secure any outdoor belongings.

Palm Springs firefighters responded Thursday to a report of a person struck by lightning in the Chino Canyon area. The person was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Firefighters also responded to a palm tree fire in Chino Canyon that officials say was caused by an apparent lightning strike.
