PSUSD to Host Free Multicultural Festival Celebrating Diversity at Palm Springs Air Museum

This weekend, the Palm Springs Unified School District is inviting the community to a vibrant celebration of culture, tradition, and unity at its annual Multicultural Festival. The event will be held on Saturday, April 26, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Palm Springs Air Museum.

Marian Bouchot, community contributor with Palm Springs Unified, shares that the festival is a chance for everyone to experience the rich mix of cultures that make up the Coachella Valley.

Hosted by PSUSD’s Diversity and Racial Equity Department, the festival features student performances ranging from ballet folklorico and singing to banda music and dancing. “This event allows students of color and other diverse backgrounds to showcase their traditions in a meaningful way,” said high school junior and event host Sarah Bajit Singh.

Dr. Nicole Crawford, PSUSD’s Coordinator of Diversity and Racial Equity, says the event aims to raise awareness of the district’s diverse student population. “We want our students, their families, and community partners to be exposed to cultures they may not otherwise encounter,” she said.

In addition to the performances, attendees can explore arts and crafts for kids, resource tables from community partners, and diverse food and merchandise offered by local vendors from communities of color.

Best of all—the event is free and open to the public. PSUSD hopes the evening will spark greater appreciation for the cultural tapestry that defines the Valley.
