Strong Winds Partially Collapse Chevron Gas Station Canopy in Desert Hot Springs
Windy conditions across the Coachella Valley stirred up trouble on Tuesday, with gusts strong enough to cause structural damage in Desert Hot Springs.
One of the most striking examples of the wind’s power occurred at a Chevron gas station located at Paul Road and Palm Drive. There, the station’s large canopy, which shelters vehicles during fueling, partially collapsed due to the intense gusts. Staff members at the site told NBC Palm Springs that the wind “blew it right off,” highlighting just how forceful the conditions were.
The incident drew attention from passing drivers and raised safety concerns, but fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries related to the collapse.
Weather experts had warned of blustery conditions in the region, and meteorologist Jerry had earlier forecasted that these winds would sweep through the valley and persist into the evening. These warnings proved accurate as the gusts impacted several areas, not just Desert Hot Springs.
Authorities are urging residents to exercise caution, especially around loose outdoor items or structures that could be compromised by high winds. Meanwhile, cleanup and assessments are underway at the affected gas station.
