Student Designers Shine in 10th Annual Fashion Show at Desert Hot Springs High School

The glamour of Old Hollywood took center stage Friday night at Desert Hot Springs High School, where students rolled out the red carpet for their 10th annual fashion show.

NBC Palm Springs’ Alondra Campos went live from the campus, where preparations were well underway. Students were busy getting their hair and makeup done and putting final touches on the dazzling outfits they had spent months designing.

This year’s theme, Old Hollywood, paid tribute to timeless icons like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn — but with a modern, student-driven twist. Over the past four months, fashion program students poured their creativity into original designs featuring shimmering fabrics, custom silk flowers, pearls, and vintage silhouettes reminiscent of the golden age of cinema.

"I have designed six pieces," one student said. "Seeing my ideas come to life exactly how I imagined them was amazing."

The event also marked a historic first: students in Fashion One classes created original designs entirely from scratch — selecting their fabrics, cutting patterns, and sewing their creations without pre-made templates. The transformation of the gymnasium into a full runway show demonstrated not only style but impressive dedication.

Program advisors beamed with pride, noting how far the program has come. "We started as a club, but it grew too big, and now we have multiple fashion classes," said one advisor. "We’ve had students go on to study at FIDM and even launch their own fashion lines."

Doors opened at 6:30 p.m., with the runway show starting at 7 p.m., but excitement filled the air long before the first model walked. This 10th anniversary show was not just a celebration of fashion — it was a celebration of hard work, talent, and dreams realized.
